飛鳥？明日香？
肌感覚ですが、歴史を語られるときは「飛鳥」、農業や生活系に関する時は「明日香」が多い感じです。現在の行政区分けでは「明日香村」、その中に飛鳥という名の大字（町内）があります。
流れる川は「飛鳥川」です。万葉集には「明日香」という名も出てきます。
飛鳥時代に都のあった飛鳥地域にある、現在は明日香村内にある飛鳥大字にある飛鳥寺のそばのアスカゲストハウスです。
"あすか"という地名のいわれについては、古墳時代から我国に移住した、たくさんの渡来人たちが、さすらいの果てに得た安住の地であるという意味で「安宿あすか」と名づけたのが転じたともいわれ、さらにその枕詞に使われていた「飛鳥とぶとり」をも"あすか"と読ませることになったという説が立てられています。
地名をもって時代名としているのは、日本史上にこれが初めてのことです。
飛鳥地域は、現在の奈良県高市郡明日香村周辺の地域を指さします。また、大阪羽曳野市飛鳥周辺が「近飛鳥」と言いわれているのに対たいし、明日香村周辺は「遠とおつ飛鳥あすか」と言いわれています。
これは「古事記」の記載の中で、履中天皇の同母弟(後の反正天皇)が難波から大和の石上神宮に参拝さする途中で2泊しその地を名付なづけるのに、近い方を「ちかつあすか」、奈良県の遠い方ほうを「とおつ飛鳥あすか」と示しめしたことによります。

【歴史・考古の村】
明日香村近辺は7世紀頃、日本の文化や政治の中心でした。
古墳や宮跡などの遺跡があり、木簡、古銭などの出土品などが様々な場所や施設で展示されています。また、飛鳥寺や橘寺などの寺社仏閣もたくさんあります。
There are four different themes to enjoy Asuka and endless possibilities to combine and link them.
The four themes are "history and archeology", "nature and parks", "culture and literature", and "agriculture". There might be many more themes, but let's start with the basics for your information.

Village of History and Archeology
Asuka village and its surroundings were the center of Japanese culture and politics in the 7th century.
You can find the ruins of ancient burial mounds and imperial palaces, and excavated artifacts such as wooden strips with official messages and old coins are displayed at various locations and facilities. Also Asuka Temple, Tachibana Tempel and many other shrines and Buddhist temples are awaiting your visit.
【自然・公園の村】
明日香村の約2．5％は公園です。エリアの40分の1が公園って実は珍しいんです。
芝生や木々の中に古墳や石造物が点在する不思議で優雅な空間がたくさんあります。
季節ごとに咲く花を目当てに訪れる方も多くいらっしゃいます。撮影スポットとしても有名です。自然と共に人々が生きる都市。村全体の取り組みとして景観を維持しています。
Village of Nature and Parks
About 2,5 % of Asuka village are parks. That is an amazing one fortieth of the whole area!
There are many grass-covered and wooded areas dotted with burial mounds and stone structures creating a mysterious and graceful space.
Numerous visitors come with the specific purpose of seeing the various flowers blooming at different times of the year. Asuka is a sought-after photo spot for many professional photographers. A town where nature and people coexist, the village as a whole is making efforts to maintain its unique panorama.
明日香村は『古事記』『日本書紀』などの歴史の舞台でもあり、また、日本最古の歌集『万葉集』には、1400年前に明日香村近辺の地を詠んだ歌が多くおさめられています。
明日香村では、万葉歌に歌われた自然や風土を、今も楽しむことができ、『万葉集』にちなんだ芸術や、明日香、大和の万葉歌を紹介する施設などがあります。
また、万葉朗唱をはじめ、飛鳥時代の蹴鞠の復元に取り組む「飛鳥蹴鞠」、古くから伝わる雨乞いの踊り「南無天踊り(なもでおどり)」、明日香村無形文化財「八雲琴」（二弦琴）など、伝統文化が継承されています。
Village of Culture and Literature
Asuka was the stage of historical events mentioned in the Kojiki and Nihonshoki, the two oldest chronicles existing in Japan. The Man'yo collection of Japanese poems contains many poems about the Asuka of 1400 years ago.
Even nowadays you can enjoy the nature and spiritual climate celebrated in the Man'yo verses. There are many facilities introducing Man'yo verses of Asuka and Yamato and fine art associated with them.
Traditional culture is very much alive today in Asuka: for example there are poem recitals, the "Asuka Kemari" club striving to restore Kemari (a type of football played by courtiers in ancient Japan), "Namodeodori" , a rain dance to pray for rain handed down from ancient times, and the "Yakumogoto", a kind of two-stringed koto that is an intangible cultural asset of Asuka village.
【農業の村】
村の面積は小さいですが、至る所で米、野菜、果物が作られています。
野菜や果物は少量多品種が特徴です。直売所も小さな村に3つ有り、新鮮で安く、季節折々の味覚を手軽に楽しんでいただけます。みかんの発祥は明日香村橘地区なんですよ！
米はいにしえの頃から続く農業で今も主作物です。ヒノヒカリを中心とした美味しいお米。また村の山側でしゃ稲渕や阪田の棚田があります。棚田100選にも選ばれているほどの美しさです。棚田特有の曲線美と階層美に古墳の立体感、存在感が融合した魅力を堪能できます。
Village of Agriculture
The area of Asuka village is not large, but in many locations rice, vegetables, and fruit are grown.
Fruit and vegetables are not grown in large quantities but rather in an abundance of varieties. You can get the fresh and inexpensive produce changing from season to season easily at three farmers' markets in the village. You'll be surprised to know that the mikan mandarin orange has its origin in the Tachibana zone of Asuka!
Rice has been cultivated since ancient times and is even now a main crop. Asuka is famous for its delicious rice with the Hinohikari variety at its center. Then there are the terraced rice fields of Inabuchi and Sakata in the hills of the village, so beautiful as to have been choosen to be among the one hundred most beautiful rice terraces in Japan. The beauty of their soft curves and their many levels contrasting with the square burial mounds make for an intriguing experience that will surely let you enjoy Asuka to the full.
